my kitty lou loves being a sweet French gal
You know her as Rommy de Bommy, maker of delicious looking bags, jewelry and accessories. We have often featured her designs and her work has been picked up by MTV, Cosmopolitan and even Kimmy Gibbler can be seen wearing one of her bags in Fuller House.
For Rommy Kuperus, the brilliant mind behind these creations, food is inspiration. A trip to a supermarket is like stepping into a rabbit hole of textures, shapes and colors. You know the saying, you are what you eat, well Romy allows you to wear what you eat. Her first piece was based on traditional Dutch candy and soon other accessories followed. Now her portfolio exists of Tacos, Burgers, Churros, ‘Naked Cakes’, Cotton Candy and other candy aisle favorites.
Every item is handmade, solely by Rommy and her careful touch. She is based in the Netherlands, but would love to one day open a fashion house in the US or Paris, ideally with a bakery attached! With her popularity skyrocketing she will soon have to start considering hiring candy loving tailors or face working day and night to keep up with demand. Explore Rommy’s Etsy shop here
I desperately want the gum pins.

Petercat Jewelry
Petercat Jewelry designer, Meghan Peterson is a talented young maker out of Sacramento with a touch of weird and a little humor in her designs. Meghan shared some of her experiences with evolving as a jewelry designer in recent years, she says, ”In the past my jewelry was comprised of mostly found and recycled materials such as bottle caps filled with resin and found objects. I used to cut the faces off of dolls and bedazzling them with rhinestones and the like. An old tooth, a dead bug, shatterglass from windows, even cigarette butts, anything that could be given new life was on my bench. My jewelry aimed to shock, confuse, and amuse. I hold those designs dear to my heart, they are kitschy, crafty, and creepy-cute.
The moment I put down the glue gun and picked up the torch was life changing for me. I found myself wanting to use things that stood the test of time. I learned all of the technical skills to be a certified bench jeweler and repairman. I went to Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina for two separate metalsmithing sessions and that is where I really got to experiment with my skills and creativity. My father, one of my biggest artistic inspirations, has always been a gem and mineral collector. We discovered the trade school at a Gem Show together, a father-daughter tradition. He even built us a studio, with all of his lapidary equipment on one side, and my bench and torch on the other. That is where every single piece of Petercat Jewelry is painstakingly made. I am so incredibly grateful to my Parents for their unwavering guidance and support in this journey of mine,” says Meghan.
I love a great backstory that includes being thankful to the parents who so often help these hardworking young designers get on their feet and I’m happy to say that Petercat Jewelry will be at Nevada City Craft Fair on Sunday December 11th at Miners Foundry for the 6th Annual Winter Show. Visit this unique designer to find out more about her latest creative inspirations.
